Prenatal Yoga

Teaching prenatal yoga for the past 5 years has been such a great source of happiness for Paula! She truly enjoys this wonderful opportunity to meet new mothers, share in their excitement and gently guide them on their delightful journey.

Prenatal Yoga

The practice of yoga during your pregnancy can do so much to improve and preserve you and your baby’s health and benefit both of you as you prepare for labor.  Your body will be constantly changing moment by moment and a regular yoga practice will relax you when you are stressed and energize you when you are fatigued, it will help you to sleep more soundly, and support all aspects of your wellbeing. Practicing prenatal yoga can be empowering and inspires confidence, strength and stamina from within.

The gentle stretches will tone the muscles without straining them and help maintain flexibility.  The asanas (postures) will help you develop stamina and strength needed for labor and delivery and encourage a faster recovery.  The simple breathing practices bring about mental calmness and physical relaxation which enable you to more easily cope with the anxieties and demands of pregnancy, labor and life in general. The meditation and relaxation will allow you time to “just be” with your unborn baby without distractions and the hustle and bustle of daily life allowing you time to connect and bond.  Yoga stimulates the “feel good” hormones which are so important to you and your baby’s wellbeing! “Usually, I am not the yoga-type – I am not flexible, not physical, and generally unmotivated to move. During my pregnancy I thought I’d give it a try anyways – for the baby. Prenatal Yoga with Paula turned out to be a truly wonderful thing. The exercises are gentle enough for a beginner and immediately helped my back feel better. The meditations are incredibly relaxing. What helped me most during labor was a special breathing technique I learned during class called ‘ocean breath’. When the contractions got stronger I tried it and was able to manage the pain without panicking. I was shocked when my midwife told me I had made it to 8cm before I even started complaining about the discomfort!”
